Massachusetts boosts local cybersecurity with advanced training

Nearly 80,000 municipality and public school district employees across Massachusetts are set to receive cyberattack prevention training as part of the state’s new Municipal Cybersecurity Awareness Grant Program. The program will be managed by the state’s Office of Municipal and School Technology and aims to bolster cyber preparedness among employees. Officials have stated that virtual training, threat simulation, and evaluation will be provided to the participants. In addition, communities that have completed the training program will be given end-user training and phishing simulation licenses. The program is seen as a way to emphasize that cybersecurity is the responsibility of everyone, regardless of their job title. Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Kimberley Driscoll commented that the program “really moves the needle with our municipal workforce.”
