Adrian JohnsonThe first-ever Pwn2Own Automotive hackathon, organized by VicOne and Zero Day Initiative (ZDI), took place in Tokyo from January 24-26, 2024. The event brought together 17 white hat hacker teams and individuals from nine countries to uncover cybersecurity vulnerabilities in connected vehicles. The hackers targeted Tesla’s in-vehicle infotainment system, EV chargers, operating systems, and other devices, discovering a total of 49 zero-day vulnerabilities. The Synacktiv team from France was crowned the “Master of Pwn” and won a total prize of $450,000. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between the automotive industry and IT cybersecurity experts in ensuring the safety and security of connected vehicles.
