The use of AI chatbots in cybersecurity is making the work of cybersecurity professionals easier. These chatbots can quickly identify and flag potential threats with speed and precision. However, the next phase of AI in cybersecurity involves foundation models, which have the ability to predict attacks. Foundation models can be trained on multimodal data and have the capability to detect previously unseen threats. They are self-learning and adaptable, making them a valuable tool for security analysts. In a trial project conducted by IBM, a foundation model predicted 55 attacks several days before they occurred, giving defenders a time surplus to mitigate the threats. While foundation models have the potential to significantly improve cybersecurity, they are not a guarantee of complete security.
