Adrian JohnsonSecurity experts have warned that plans to amend the UK’s Investigatory Powers Act could delay security updates and hamper the use of end-to-end encryption. Proposed changes to the Act, often referred to as the “snoopers’ charter”, would introduce bureaucratic hurdles to patching security vulnerabilities in computer systems. The changes could also prevent or delay tech companies from introducing end-to-end encryption on messaging and email services. Some 30 cyber security experts, cryptographers and academics have written an open letter to home secretary James Cleverly urging him to reconsider the amendments.
