In a recent talk, Hamilton alum Jiin Jeong ’21 presented her research on cybersecurity, emphasizing the differences in cybersecurity education and policy between countries. Jeong, currently pursuing a Masters in Information Security at Carnegie Mellon University, discussed the importance of solid basic skills and hands-on research in the U.S. cybersecurity program compared to international competition. She also highlighted the cybersecurity programs in South Korea and China, pointing out their industry-oriented focus and aggressive investment, respectively.

Jeong’s research also shed light on the gender disparity in the cybersecurity field, with a 9–1 man to woman ratio in the U.S. and 93–7 man to woman ratio in South Korea. Jeong hopes her work can help diversify the field and inspire more women to pursue careers in cybersecurity. She also shared her experiences and advice for students looking to enter the cyber field, emphasizing the importance of taking chances, seeking resources, and leveraging skills for success.
