Blamed for destructive malware attacks like WhisperGate in Ukraine, the unit is also accused of conducting hacking operations against NATO targets, countries in Europe, Latin America, and Central Asia. Several Russian nationals linked to Unit 29155, including Amin Timovich Stigal, are wanted in connection with the cyber operations. The US Justice Department has issued charges against Stigal for a conspiracy to hack into and destroy computer systems and data. Organizations are urged to prioritize system updates and network security in light of these cyber threats.
