Government to launch reviewed strategy in fighting cyber security threats

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation highlighted the importance of this new strategy, citing Ghana’s commitment to addressing cyber attacks as recognized by the International Telecommunications Union.

The upcoming National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy will provide a roadmap for Ghana’s cybersecurity development, with a focus on areas such as building a resilient digital ecosystem, securing digital infrastructure, developing national capacity, deterring cybercrime, and strengthening cooperation. The strategy document, approved by the Cabinet of Ghana, is expected to enhance the country’s readiness and resilience in the face of cyber threats.

The Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry emphasized the significance of Ghana’s participation in cyber drills to improve vigilance and resilience against escalating cyber threats. Building the capacity of cyber security professionals was also highlighted as a crucial aspect of combating cyber threats. The Cyber Security Authority in Ghana has registered numerous cyber security professionals and establishments to bolster the country’s cyber security landscape.

Furthermore, the Interpol Cybercrime Directorate highlighted the focus on countering ransomware and digital extortion in the cyber drill, acknowledging the common use of these tactics by online fraudsters. The collaboration between various stakeholders, including government agencies and international organizations, is essential in the fight against cyber threats.
