South Korean tech giant, LG Electronics, and Cybellum, an automotive cybersecurity company, plan to showcase their co-developed Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) Cockpit platform at CES 2024. This platform is tailored to assist automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in managing and monitoring their vehicle cybersecurity.
The CSMS Cockpit platform has been constructed through a collaborative effort between LG Electronics and Cybellum, which was acquired by LG in 2021. The platform takes on vital cyber-assurance and incident response tasks, enabling OEMs to ensure that their vehicles remain digitally secure and in complete accord with evolving cybersecurity standards.
Automotive cybersecurity is an area gaining considerable attention in the mobility sector due to escalating cybersecurity regulations such as the WP.29 UNECE R155. From July 2024, these regulations require all vehicles produced by OEMs to meet new cybersecurity standards for selling in 54 countries, including EU member states, the UK, Japan, and South Korea.
The CSMS Cockpit platform is a comprehensive tool that addresses the challenges of automotive cybersecurity management, offering proactive monitoring and taking preventive measures to counter potential threats. The platform analyzes vehicle components over the vehicle’s lifecycle—approximately over 20 years, thus creating and managing an extensive database that accounts for development and real-world usage. Furthermore, it can automatically address security concerns and track the effectiveness of response protocols, thus enabling real-time risk detection and inspection protocols for individual components.
Through the CSMS Cockpit platform, automakers can efficiently manage product security by promptly assessing and addressing any security threats related to components. In addition, it reviews newly identified threats and their potential impact on manufacturers’ parts, thereby enhancing the overall security reliability of vehicles.
