TLDR:

  • Over 70% of European organisations have staff using AI at work, but only 30% provide AI training.
  • Just 17% of organisations have a formal, comprehensive AI policy in place.

Recent research by ISACA has highlighted the lack of AI training and policies in European organisations. Despite the widespread use of AI at work, only 30% of organisations provide limited training to employees in tech-related positions, and 40% offer no training at all. Additionally, just 17% of organisations have a formal AI policy in place. This lack of training and policies is compounded by a gap in education around AI, with 74% of respondents reporting only being somewhat familiar or not familiar at all with AI.

Concerns around the ethical use of AI are also prevalent, with 61% of respondents expressing extreme or very worry about the potential exploitation of generative AI by bad actors. AI presents a double-edged sword for cybersecurity, with the potential for both enhancing threat detection and being exploited by malicious actors. Upskilling and training in AI are in high demand, with 86% of respondents feeling that this training will be necessary within the next two years.

Chris Dimitriadis, Chief Global Strategy Officer at ISACA, emphasizes the importance of formal AI training and clear policies for cyber professionals to combat increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. As cyber criminals use AI for targeted attacks, businesses must upskill their teams to stay ahead of evolving threats and protect their reputation.
