  • Cisco and the University of Adelaide are collaborating under the Defence Trailblazer project to enhance cyber resilience in military platforms.
  • The project aims to assess vulnerabilities in the health, usage, and maintenance systems of military platforms and provide solutions for greater cyber resilience.

In a collaboration aimed at enhancing cyber resilience in military platforms, technology company Cisco has joined forces with the University of Adelaide under the Defence Trailblazer project. With cyber-attacks becoming more prevalent, the need to protect information with secure networks is crucial. Military platforms are increasingly using networked sensors for telemetry data, but with new systems come new vulnerabilities. The Defence Trailblazer project, led by experts from the University of Adelaide and Cisco, will focus on assessing the cyber resilience of the health, usage, and maintenance systems (HUMS) on military platforms.

Dr. Sanjay Mazumdar, Executive Director of Defence Trailblazer, expressed excitement over the collaboration with Cisco to accelerate the translation and commercialization of cyber technologies for safeguarding the nation. The project will be led by Associate Professor Hung Nguyen from the University of Adelaide, who will apply advanced algorithms and mathematical models to develop provable cyber defensive solutions for platform security. The project will also leverage a research laboratory at the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre in Adelaide to foster collaboration and build sovereign capability.

Cisco, as an industry partner, will provide its global expertise in cybersecurity to protect networks and meet mission requirements. The collaboration aligns with the Commonwealth’s Cybersecurity Strategy and aims to facilitate research income generation for universities, grow cybersecurity enrollments, and support career transitions in cybersecurity fields and the AUKUS alliance. Through this partnership, Cisco aims to introduce its existing partners in the Cisco National Industry Innovation Network to the national defense community and Australia’s defense industry.

The project underlines the importance of cyber resilience in military platforms and the need for cutting-edge technologies to address vulnerabilities and enhance security. By bringing together expertise from academia and industry, the Defence Trailblazer project is paving the way for a more secure and resilient cyber domain in Australia’s defense landscape.
