TLDR:

  • Cisco plans to slash 4,000 more jobs in an effort to focus on cybersecurity and AI.
  • The layoffs are part of an ongoing strategy to diversify offerings and strengthen financials.

Networking giant Cisco is set to cut thousands of jobs as it shifts its focus towards growing its cybersecurity business and meeting the increasing demand for AI technologies. The layoffs are expected to be announced soon after Cisco’s fourth-quarter results are released. The company had previously laid off about 4,000 employees in February, and this new round of cuts is anticipated to be similar in scope.

As Cisco faces declining revenues and profits, it has been actively working to diversify its offerings. One of the steps taken in this direction was the acquisition of data analytics firm Splunk for $28 billion. Additionally, Cisco is investing in AI networking, aiming to secure $1 billion worth of AI product orders by the end of its 2025 fiscal year.

The company is also collaborating with Nvidia to develop Ethernet-based technologies for enterprises deploying GPU clusters or AI workloads. Despite the challenging quarter ahead, Cisco remains focused on its goal of strengthening its position in the cybersecurity and AI markets.
