Mobile Guardian, a mobile device management vendor based in the UK, experienced a security incident on August 4 that allowed unauthorized access to iOS and ChromeOS devices managed by its tools. As a result of the attack, 13,000 devices in Singapore were remotely wiped, prompting the Ministry of Education to sever ties with the vendor. Despite the vendor’s assurance that there is no evidence of the perpetrator accessing user data, Singapore’s Education Ministry took precautionary measures and removed Mobile Guardian’s software from devices, deploying additional IT teams to assist schools and students. This incident comes after previous unauthorized access incidents and technical difficulties in Singapore involving the vendor, impacting school students and staff.
