Google Cloud unveiled new AI-powered security tools at the Google Cloud Next 2024 event, showcasing the integration of its flagship Gemini language model into security protection tools. The tools, including Gemini in Threat Intelligence, Security Operations, and Security Command Center, aim to empower security professionals with enhanced capabilities.

Gemini in Security Operations provides assistance to security professionals in conducting investigations by offering recommendations on actions to take for security incidents and alerts. This tool also aids in drafting detection rules to improve response times. On the other hand, Gemini in Threat Intelligence allows security professionals to perform conversational searches on platforms like Mandiant, while Gemini in Security Command Center generates summaries of security alerts to provide insights into potential issues.

Fiserv, a fintech company, had the opportunity to trial the new Gemini-powered security tools and found them beneficial for their cybersecurity operations. Google Cloud also previewed new security-focused features in Gemini Cloud Assist, such as contextual recommendations for identity and access management, assistance in creating encryption keys, and insights into staff with over-permissioned access to platforms.

In addition to the security tools, Google Cloud introduced Chrome Enterprise Premium, which enhances security endpoints for the Chrome web browser. This offering provides custom permissions for staff, including phishing protections and data loss prevention controls, with Snap Inc. being one of the early adopters experiencing a reduction in content transfers due to the added security measures.
