Government officials in Viet Nam were better prepared to respond to cybersecurity threats facing women and girls after attending a workshop organized by the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention in collaboration with UN Women. The workshop, titled “Women, Peace and Cyber Security,” took place in Ninh Binh, Viet Nam on June 22, 2024.
The workshop brought together leaders from various departments, including the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, the Party and Political Work Department, and the Ninh Binh Provincial Police. Representatives from the Central Vietnam Women’s Union, MPS’s Women’s Union, and other related departments also participated. In addition, discussions with students, teachers, and staff were held to encourage dialogue on cybersecurity threats.
This workshop marked the beginning of the implementation of Viet Nam’s first National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security, which focuses on enhancing the effectiveness of prevention and response to gender-based violence, including technology-facilitated violence. Lieutenant Colonel Trieu Manh Tung emphasized the importance of the workshop as part of the Ministry of Public Security’s efforts to prevent and combat criminal activities in cyberspace.
Gaelle Demolis, a Governance, Peace, and Security Policy and Programme Specialist from UN Women, highlighted the growing challenges in the digital ecosystem, including cybercrime, cyberattacks, and cyber harassments that threaten the peace and stability of nations. She emphasized the need to protect vulnerable groups, especially women and girls, against these security issues.
Overall, the workshop aimed to raise awareness and build capacity for women and girls in responding to cyber challenges. By equipping government officials and other stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and resilience, the workshop contributed to enhancing the cybersecurity preparedness of Viet Nam in addressing threats facing women and girls.
