Key Points:

  • Green Berets demonstrated hacking skills during military exercises
  • Used Wi-Fi hacking to gain access to a target building in Sweden

The US Army Special Forces, known as the Green Berets, showcased their hacking abilities during the Swift Response 24 military exercises. This elite team, which specializes in unconventional warfare, utilized Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) soldiers with advanced hacking skills to storm a building near Skillingaryd in Sweden. By using signaling equipment to access Wi-Fi networks at the target location, the team was able to monitor activities and gather critical information.

After scanning the building with a remote access device (RAD) and cracking passwords, the Green Berets disabled security systems, shut off CCTV cameras, and opened secured doors. In a second phase of the attack, another team parachuted in, reconnoitered the area, and sabotaged security systems before leaving undetected. This operation demonstrates the military’s evolving use of hacking in front-line tactics.

Swift Response 24, part of a NATO training session, involved over 17,000 US and 23,000 multinational service members. The participation of new member states, Finland and Sweden, sends a clear message of readiness to potential aggressors. Through these exercises, NATO aims to showcase collaborative defense capabilities and preparedness for potential attacks on member states.
