  • The breach impacted the Municipal Court and Transfer Station, but services have been restored.

The city of Killeen in Texas is currently recovering from a cyber security breach that occurred due to an intrusion from a cybercriminal known as BlackSuit Ransomware. The city has been in contact with the Texas Department of Information Resources to address the issue. Killeen’s IT department took immediate steps to secure systems and prevent further access once the breach was discovered. As a precautionary measure, Killeen disconnected from the Bell County Network to prevent additional impacts on other systems. While the Municipal Court and Transfer Station were impacted, their services have been restored. However, residents may experience delays in essential services at the Utility Collections division. To make payments, residents can currently only use online platforms or pay with cash, check, or money order in person.

Killeen reassures residents that there is no evidence to suggest personal or financial information has been compromised. However, they advise residents to monitor their financial accounts for any suspicious activities and report them to their banks if necessary. Updates on Utility Collections are available on their website.
