In a recent cyber attack, hackers have stolen data from the parking apps RingGo and ParkMobile, which are used by millions of motorists. EasyPark, the owner of these apps, has reported the attack to the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK and the equivalent European regulator. It is estimated that the details of at least 950 UK customers have been stolen, including names, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, and partial credit card numbers. The company has reassured customers that the stolen data is “non-sensitive” and cannot be used to perform payments. However, it has warned customers to be vigilant for phishing scams, where fraudsters use customer details to send convincing-looking emails or texts in an attempt to scam them. It is unclear who is behind the hack, but it is believed that non-UK customers have also been affected. EasyPark is reaching out to all affected customers and is working to ensure that security and privacy measures are in place.
