In the latest Threat Intelligence Report by Check Point Research on August 5, 2024, several significant cyber-attacks and breaches were highlighted. OneBlood, an American blood donation center, was targeted by a ransomware attack, affecting operations in multiple states. Additionally, vulnerabilities in Ubiquiti cameras and routers were identified, putting thousands of devices at risk of exploitation.

Check Point Research also reported on breaches at American pharmaceutical company Cencora, the City of Columbus, Ohio, a Taiwanese government-affiliated research institute, Russian information security firm Avanpost, HSA provider HealthEquity, and the world’s largest silver producer, Fresnillo PLC. These breaches resulted in significant data leaks and compromises of sensitive information.

Furthermore, researchers uncovered vulnerabilities in VMware ESXi and Proofpoint’s email protection service, which have been actively exploited by ransomware groups. Additionally, a malvertising campaign exploiting social media platforms and an increase in the abuse of TryCloudflare Tunnels for delivering remote access trojans were identified.

Lastly, a large-scale Android-targeted SMS stealer campaign, impacting victims in over 100 countries, was discovered. The campaign involved the exfiltration of sensitive SMS messages, including OTPs, through deceptive apps.
