A doctoral candidate from Lorraine University in Nancy, France, Ala Eddine Laouir, is currently working at SUNY Canton as a visiting researcher in the Cybersecurity program. Laouir is focusing on big data and data confidentiality in large or complex data sets as part of his final steps in completing his Ph.D. His collaboration with SUNY Canton’s Advanced Information Security and Privacy research lab has led to mentorship opportunities for undergraduate students.

Laouir, under the guidance of Kambiz Ghazinour Naiani, an associate professor and Cybersecurity program director, is working on various research projects, including differential privacy and security concerns with large language models. He has also coauthored a scholarly work titled ‘SLIM-View: Sampling and Private Publishing of Multidimensional Databases,’ which addresses the challenges of handling large amounts of data while maintaining data privacy. The paper introduces a solution called SLIM-View, which offers impressive resource efficiency and privacy protection capabilities.

The Cybersecurity program at SUNY Canton prepares students to assess computer and network security needs, develop security solutions, and manage security device implementations. The program is recognized as a Center of Excellence in Cyber Defense by the NSA and DHS. Laouir has also taught Cryptography, Information Security, and Digital Forensics at the college.

SUNY Canton, known for its hands-on programs in engineering technology, management, and healthcare fields, offers online education through SUNY Canton OnLine, with over 23 online degree programs and flexible course options.
