A 22-year-old British national, believed to be the leader of an organized cybercrime group, was arrested in Spain for orchestrating cyberattacks on 45 US companies. The individual earned 391 bitcoins, equivalent to over $27 million, from these cyberattacks. Spanish police worked with the FBI to apprehend the suspect in Palma de Mallorca.

The cybercriminal used phishing campaigns to obtain access credentials, infiltrate corporate systems, exfiltrate sensitive data, and access victims’ cryptocurrency wallets to siphon funds. The stolen information was likely monetized and sold on dark web forums.

This incident highlights the growing threat of cybercrime and the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures to protect organizations from malicious actors.
