Australia’s largest car dealer, Eagers Automotive, was hit by a cyber attack which resulted in operational disruptions across numerous locations in Australia and New Zealand. The company implemented a trading halt and apologized to customers for any inconvenience caused. Although most dealerships remained open, there were disruptions to new vehicle transactions and certain aspects of the service and parts operations. The financial impact of the attack is expected to relate to the deferral of transactions in the last five days of December 2023, with minimal material effect on the company’s statutory profit before tax for the year. Eagers Automotive has launched an investigation into the incident and is closely reviewing whether any personal information has been impacted. The company has notified the Australian and New Zealand cyber security centers and pledged to keep stakeholders updated as the investigation progresses.
