Israeli cybersecurity firm Mend.io has acquired Atom Security, a company specializing in cyber risk assessment. The acquisition is valued at several million dollars and marks Mend’s fifth acquisition in the last three years. Atom Security, founded earlier this year, was previously bootstrapped.

Mend.io, formerly known as WhiteSource, was founded in 2011 and aims to assist developers in managing open-source libraries, mitigating security risks, and addressing open-source license concerns. The company has received $122 million in funding, including a $75 million Series D round in April 2021. Mend.io has 291 employees, with 200 based in Israel.

Atom Security’s co-founders will join Mend.io’s Cloud Native division. The integration of Atom Security’s technology is expected to broaden Mend.io’s coverage and decrease the number of irrelevant findings in its notifications by 60% to 70%. The move comes as a 2023 Symantec report reveals that 74% of attacks on organizations target the application layer.
