In a recent audit report, Missouri Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick accused Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft of withholding cybersecurity reviews of the state’s election authorities, alleging that this action violates state law. House bill 1878, passed in 2022, mandates that cybersecurity reviews be conducted every two years and shared with the state auditor’s office. Fitzpatrick contends that Ashcroft’s refusal to provide copies of these reviews hindered the audit’s ability to assess the implementation of the new cybersecurity protocols.
