New Haven Schools: 2 IT Staff Suspended Over Cyber Attack

TLDR: Two IT employees at New Haven Public Schools have been placed on paid leave due to “performance-related concerns” that arose while implementing cybersecurity measures following a cyber attack in June 2023. Hackers stole $5.9 million in city funds, of which $4.7 million was expected to be recovered. The attack involved the compromise of an email account associated with a member of the management team of the Board of Education. New Haven has hired two financial consultants to tighten its cybersecurity and review its financial controls.
